Still going

Well, I did not want anyone to think we had forgotten about the house. It is still going up. There just are not a whole lot of photogenic moments. We received high and low voltage wiring this week. We (myself and a buddy of ours) wiring the entire house for TV, Ethernet, and Telephone lines. We literally put a wire in every room except the bathrooms and dining room. Wow a lot of work, but I enjoyed it. We still have a little more to do, but it will all be worth it.

After all of this, there will be a few inspections, a few things to clean up and fix, and the sheetrock and insulation will go in. Moving right along.

Photo galleries up and running

The galleries are 98% done and should be useable. Each blog post has an associated gallery that is essentially automatic.

I used MT-PhotoGallery and MTEmbedImage to make it as simple and easy to maintain as possible. Make a weblog post, specify a folder name in the Keywords field, then upload all your images into that newly created folder. MTEmbedImage takes all the images and makes thumbnails for them, and then MT-PhotoGallery sets up a simple gallery.

It works well and looks pretty good, the only issue that still remains is when a photo is taller than it is wide. When that is the case, the thumbnail created is much larger than normal because the size is only based on width. It would be nice to specify a width or a height the thumbnail image should be. It would also be nice to be able to make more than one size thumbnail in one step. Hopefully I'll figure out these little upgrades soon.

Welcome...

The site is finally up and operational. The weblog as well as all pages should be functioning normally now, though there will still be some more changes before everything is officially finished. Most importantly, the site hasn't been handed over to Matt and Josie yet so there won't be much, if any, new content until then.

The photo galleries still aren't done, but I'll be working my rear end off to find a simple and functional way to get them working. The other main thing that still needs to be completed is content, content, and more content. The About page is still pretty much an empty shell, but I'll have to rely on Matt and Josie for help there. The Contact page needs a functioning contact form, but at least has email addresses up until that gets done.

As for actual fixes/upgrades, the main one is to make some good browser versus IE specific changes. Namely, when the pages don't have enough content and the left sidebar extends down beyond the content section it looks horrible. There's a white background on the drop shadow and it is incredibly amateurish. I can fix it for PNG-supporting browsers pretty simply, but fixing it in IE will be a little more fun. There's several other places where similar changes will go along way to making the site look cleaner and more professional.

If you stumble across any issues or have any questions please feel free to shoot me an email.
